Acer aims to be one of the top five smart-phone makers within five years

Acer is planning to release up to ten mobile phones before the year is out, though most of them are likely to use Microsoft’s Windows Mobile software.
Acer officially announced its smart-phone ambitions at the Mobile World Congress trade show in February. The announcement came nearly a year after the company acquired Taiwanese handset maker, E-Ten. Acer's interest in the country shows the growing importance of the Chinese market because of its number of potential subscribers, especially as the mobile market is expected to see a decline this year. While the majority of Chinese subscribers use low-end cell phones for calling and texting, there's a growing demand for sophisticated handsets capable of surfing the Web, sending e-mail, and playing multimedia files. This demand is expected to increase as the country rolls out its high-speed 3G network.
